Patches, a crossing guard dog, lost his job when the school board decided he can no longer go to his post. Children often look for him to help them cross the street, but he’s not allowed to do that anymore. Brad Curtis’ partner during his shift as the crossing guard at a school in Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania will no longer be joining him.

Losing his job

Superintendent Dorothy Chappel emphasized the school’s policy regarding the presence of animals, causing Patches to lose his job. She clarified that the change had nothing to with Patches’ performance because he was doing the job well despite the lack of training.

Chappel mentioned that while it’s no question that Patches is cute and lovable, his presence poses unanticipated risks for car drivers and pedestrians. The school decided to fire Patches to avoid accidents.

The students and their parents were shocked when they learned about what happened to Patches. They expressed their sadness because they will miss seeing him on their daily route to school. Curtis echoed their sentiments, saying that pedestrians and drivers paid attention to him. They would slow down to help the adorable crossing guard do his job properly.

From crossing guard to security guard

Curtis did not doubt that Patches will get another job and he was right. The pup may have lost his job at the school, but a window immediately opened for him, and he was offered a job at the Country Beary Shack. Patches said yes of course, and he’s now their Goodwill Ambassador and security guard dog.

Patches’ task is to welcome the customers to the shack. The darling dog is on duty from 2 to 4 in the afternoon, and he gets to wear a uniform. Watch the video below to know more about Patches’ story:
