Out with the flowers and in with the dogs. This bride’s wedding highlights did not only revolve around the celebration of love between the couple but also the celebration of the bride’s love for dogs. The lovely bride has requested her bridesmaid to walk down the aisle not with the traditional bouquet but with the local shelter’s senior dogs.
Sally Burky has long been donating funds to one particular Washburn, Missouri-based no-kill shelter, the Haven of the Ozarks. Her love for the sanctuary sparked when she brought two rescues to the shelter, both of which have abusive owners.
She adored the shelter so much that she even suggested to her husband to turn to the shelter if ever they wanted a four-legged addition to their family. Her pure love the dogs was the primary reason why she wanted them to be a part of her wedding day.
She scoured through Pinterest for wedding ideas, and when she came upon bridesmaids who carried puppies instead of flowers, that’s when she knew the perfect role the shelter pups would play on her big day. Her soon-to-be husband fully supported her idea, as well.
She contacted her favorite shelter to get the dogs ready, and on her wedding day, Haven of the Ozarks brought a handful of adorable rescues to her venue. The bridesmaids were given a pooch each which accompanied them down the aisle.
The pups have angelically behaved at the ceremony, and Sally couldn’t picture her wedding to get more magical than that. To top off the day, four out of the five rescues brought to the wedding were all adopted on that same day. The guests also chipped in their donations for the shelter in ways Sally didn’t expect at all.
